Implanted in approximately 36,000 women from 2003 through 2006, the ObTape Transobturator Sling (also referred to as a vaginal sling) is a medical device used to treat pelvic organiz prolapse (POP), stress urinary incontinence, and other damage to the vaginal walls (such as that caused by child birth, surgery, or trauma). The ObTape sling is produced by the Mentor Corporation and was intended to improve quality of life by decreasing, if not eliminating, urinary leakage, abdominal pain, and the slipping of the lower abdomen’s organs out of place.
ObTape Sling Warnings
In 2006, the Mentor Corporation pulled the ObTape vaginal mesh sling from the market due to the fact that a number of patients had reported developing severe health complications as a result of defective slings. One study published in the Journal of Urology in 2006 reported that between 12 and 20 percent of ObTape patients will experience serious injuries. The FDA issued a nationwide warning on October 31, 2008 regarding transvaginal products.
Some of the serious injuries associated with defective ObTape slings include infection, vaginal wall perforation, bowel perforation, and relapse of POP or SUI.
ObTape Sling Lawsuits
Although some cases of defective ObTape mesh slings developed as a result of medical professionals’ mistakes (through improper implantation of the device), experts have stated that the device was inherently flawed due to its defective design and unnecessary density. Given that the Mentor Corporation was negligent in its design, testing, and marketing of the ObTape sling, injured women will have a strong legal claim against this company, and they are encouraged to stand up for their legal rights by following through with an ObTape sling lawsuit.

ObTape Sling Settlements
Women who are severely injured as a result of defective ObTape mesh slings may, if they follow through with a defective device lawsuit, secure an ObTape sling settlement that compensates them for their medical bills, permanent disabilities, diminished quality of life, injuries, and losses.
If you or a loved one used an ObTape sling and suffers from dyspareunia, erosion through the vaginal wall, perforation of the bowels, bladder or blood vessels, or recurrence of SUI or POP, you should contact an ObTape sling attorney immediately for a free and confidential case review.
